Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park is located 382 km from Arusha and covers 14.763 square km. This park is known for its huge herds of wildebeests, gazelles, zebras and their predators. This is the only place in Africa where vast land-animal migration still takes place. The number of wild animals in Serengeti is countless but among the estimated numbers you find: 1.200.000 wildebeests, 500.000 gazelles, 200.000 zebras, 100.000 giraffes 30.000 wild dogs, 7.500 hyenas, 4.000 lions, 1.400 elephants, 1.000 leopards, 600 cheetahs, some 500 bird species, and numerous others. Here you find all the ‘big five’: Elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and rhino, and seeing them roaming freely in their own habitat is something you will never forget.

The most common way to experience Serengeti is by a drive-in through with one of the tour companies operating from Arusha. It takes approximately six hours to reach the park by car. Visitors often choose an overnight stay at one of the other wildlife sites on the way to the park. One may also choose to fly from Arusha to one of the airstrips in the park.
